YAFF 101 - Fun Fridays!
Course Description

Give your child the opportunity to explore global cultures through hands-on art every Friday morning this fall! “Fun Fridays” is an immersive weekly art program designed for kids ages 4 to 11. Each session is led by enthusiastic WCU art education students and features vibrant, themed activities inspired by art traditions from around the world.
🌍 Program Highlights:
- Hands-on projects like clay tiki mugs, ink painting, sculpture, and weaving
- Cultures explored include African, Native Hawaiian, Persian, Mexican, Asian, and more
- Sketchbooks provided with optional at-home activities and personal feedback
- Opportunities for large collaborative murals, museum visits, and student-choice projects
- Two age groups:
- Group A: Ages 4–7
- Group B: Ages 8–11

Whether your child is just discovering art or already loves to create, Fun Fridays offers an inspiring, educational, and playful environment to grow their skills and imagination!
Tentative Schedule:
August 29 – Intro & African Art
- Group A: Instrument making (playing), modified stamping
- Group B: Zentangles into cloth making with stamps
September 5 – Native Hawaiian Art
- Group A: Tiki-inspired mugs (clay), Royal Capes
- Group B: Tiki-inspired mugs (clay), Soap carving
September 12 – Persian-Inspired Art
- Group A: Non-objective designs on cloth, Metallic paper-frame designs
- Group B: Persian-inspired weaving
September 19 – Persian-Inspired Art (pt. 2)
- Group A: Large mural paintings about favorite topic
- Group B: Final day for Persian-inspired weaving
September 26 – Mexican-Inspired Art
- Group A: Folk painting on handmade paper
- Group B: Folk painting/incised drawing on gourds
October 3 – Asian-Inspired Art
- Group A: Ink painting, Simple origami
- Group B: Ink painting, Kumihimo (braiding)
October 10 – European Still Life
- Both Groups: Still-life painting, Color wheel mixing
October 24 – European Still Life (pt. 2)
- Group A: Large sculpture-making with cardboard
- Group B: Continue still-life painting, Color wheel mixing
October 31 – Kids’ Choice
- Activity: Visit to Mountain Heritage Center
November 7 – Kids’ Choice
- Activity: Visit to WCU Art Museum
